In addition, Phosphorus helps to balance out the levels of many other vitamins and minerals in the body. Infants require 100 milligrams per day from birth until six months of age. Babies between seven months and one year of age require 275 milligrams per day. The recommended daily requirement grows to 460 milligrams per day between one and three years of age. Children between the ages of four and eight need 500 milligrams daily. The need jumps to 1,250 milligrams per day for growing kids between the ages of nine and 18. Adults require 700 milligrams per day. Pregnant women should take in between 700 milligrams and 1,250 milligrams daily. Kidney disease is the primary cause of an excess of phosphorus in the body. A condition called hypercalcemia can result in too little phosphorus in the body. Phosphorus was first isolated by Hennig Brand discovered in 1669.
