Foods with Vitamin B2


Vitamin B2 is commonly referred to as riboflavin. This important vitamin helps to transform carbohydrates and glucose into energy for the body. It was discovered during the search for a treatment for pellagra.

A deficiency of the vitamin is usually caused by poor diet or excessive alcohol intake. Too much vitamin B2 in the body is usually a result of diet. Adults require between 1.1 milligrams and 1.3 milligrams of riboflavin per day. Pregnant women require 1.4 milligrams daily. Breastfeeding women require 1.6 milligrams daily. Children between birth and 13 years of age require between 0.3 milligrams and 1.3 milligrams per day. Teens between the ages of 14 and 18 require 1.4 milligrams per day.
