Manganese helps to form bones, tissue, blood and sex hormones. It also contributes to calcium absorption and blood sugar regulation. Diabetes, PMS, arthritis and epilepsy are some of the conditions that can cause low levels of manganese in the body. Too much manganese in the body is caused by diet. The recommended daily intake for males is 2.3 milligrams. Females should take in 1.8 milligrams daily. Pregnant and breastfeed women require between 2.3 milligrams and 2.6 milligrams daily.
